Joan Louise (Overman) Hillson

May 1, 1950 ~ December 4, 2018 (age 68)

Joan Louise Hillson left this life, surrounded by her loving family, on December 4, 2018, at her home in Owasso, Oklahoma. Joan was born May 1, 1950, in State Center, Iowa, to Benjamin H. and Lucille A. (Papenberg) Overman. On June 23, 1973, Joan married Steve Hillson in State Center. The following year, she graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Science. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Steve.

Joan enjoyed many things in her life. Socializing, by far, was one of her favorites. She looked forward to "Friday night's with friends" and loved being involved and spending time with her Beta Sigma Phi Sorority sisters. Joan also liked to read and listen to music and was an avid basketball and golf fan. Her true passion in life was her love for her students, having taught math at Owasso Public Schools for 38 years. Joan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Owasso and was a role member of Faith Lutheran Church, as well.

Left to cherish her memory are: daughter, Angela Hillson-Beal and her husband Michael of Owasso; son, Tom Hillson and his wife Maggie of Tulsa; grandchildren, Chance and Anna Hillson; brother, Roger Overman and his wife Annette of Indianola, Iowa; sister, Judy Andrew and her husband John of Slater, Iowa.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, December 10, 2018, at Parsons Canoe Beggs Funeral Home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, with family visitation 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Owasso.

Although flowers are appreciated, Joan requested donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
