Berniece Mitts Obituary

Berniece Tommie (Echols) Mitts, of Skiatook, Oklahoma passed away on August 20, 2019, at the age of 87, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born to Thomas Melton and Ruby Katherine (Kesner) Echols on December 18, 1931 in Osage, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Elden Mitts; brother, Dale Milton Echols; sister, Patricia Echols Taylor; and grandson, Mickey Don Graves.

Berniece enjoyed life to the fullest. She attended school in Hominy, Oklahoma and went to high school at Mound Valley High where she graduated in 1949. During her senior year, Berniece was recognized as an All-State Basketball Player. She was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Cowboys fan.

She loved to travel and read, was a longtime educator, and had a passion for the teaching profession. She was a woman of strong faith who positively impacted the lives of many people. Her grandkids brought her great joy, and she was a beloved grandmother to them all.

Berniece is survived by her sons, Danny Mitts, and wife Patricia, of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Tommy Mitts, and wife Marva, of Skiatook; daughters, Kelly Stowe of Skiatook; Pauline Dillman, and husband David, of Skiatook; and Jonie Graves, and husband Tom, of Skiatook; 15 grandkids; 17 great-grandkids and 2 great-great-grandkids. A host of other relatives and friends also survive her.

A visitation will be held August 23, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Parsons-Canoe-Beggs Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held August 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Angus Church and will be officiated by Jordan Stowe, Senior Pastor. A committal service will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Skiatook, Oklahoma.
